Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the nation's largest e-ticketing website, for the first time has offered "cash-on-delivery" option for buying railway tickets through a partnership with Bookmytrain.com It offers IRCTC customers an option to book their travel on Cash of Delivery, in turn making the payment more convenient. This is achieved by billing the travel fare to the customer at the time of delivery at their door steps. 

The Cash on Delivery system for railway e-tickets, to be offered by the website BookmyTrain.com has now been started by Indian Railways. Using the service,  people can now book e-tickets and pay for them after they are delivered to their homes.

The system has been envisaged for those who don't have a credit card, debit card or internet banking facility to pay for railway e-tickets while booking them on the Indian Railways ticketing portal irctc.co.in, especially the rural populace. An additional charge of Rs 40 for sleeper class ticket and Rs 60 for AC class ticket would be levied for COD. Terms and conditions of the website indicate that the booked tickets would be delivered two days prior to the journey date (three for certain far-away locations).

Cash on Delivery bookings can be made up to five days before the date of the journey. Wait-listed and RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets can also be procured using the service, the website terms indicated. Payment must be made within 120 hours of booking the ticket, or it would be cancelled.
The service has been launched as a pilot project and COD would be available in 200 cities, a PTI report indicated.

In case of cancellation, the money would be refunded to the bank account number provided, or by cheque to the customer's registered address. In case of the latter, courier charges would have to be borne by the passenger, terms indicated.
